It is recommended that rabbits be kept in cages on private farms and farms. With the cellular system of keeping, it is possible to properly conduct breeding, economically spend food, effectively treat animals and carry out preventive measures.
Depending on climatic conditions, cells are installed in open areas. in the yard, in the garden, etc., or indoors. The combined content of rabbits is also used: in the warm season. outdoors in winter. in room.
When placing cages in the yard or shed, it should be borne in mind that rabbits do not tolerate draft, as well as increased or decreased humidity. The speed of air movement around rabbit cages should not exceed 30 cm / s. The optimum relative humidity is 60-75%. Cages with rabbits cannot be placed near swamps, where fogs often occur and the relative humidity is very high. Rabbits also feel bad in places with relative humidity below 50%.
When placing stationary cells in several tiers, it is advisable to install two rows of them in front of one another. At the same time, when receiving okroly in the winter, the cells can be blocked by a removable gable roof. The distance between the rows should be sufficient for free passage of a person. For the winter, the ends of such aisles should be covered with any shields or fitted with a strong film, and under the roof above the aisle to conduct electric lighting.
When placing cells in sheds, it is necessary to ensure sufficient illumination and clean air.
Cages for adult rabbits of large and medium meat-skin and down breed can be single-section and two-section. In two-section cells, the aft and nest sections. Single-section cells are recommended to be made 80-110 cm long, 60 cm wide, two-section cells 130 and 60 cm, respectively, the length of the aft compartment 90 cm, nest. 40 cm. The height of the cells is 45-60 cm. If there is a sufficient amount of building materials for large-sized rabbits with an adult mass of 5 kg or more, it is better to increase the length of the two-section cage to 140-150 cm.
The sizes of the group cage for young animals are determined by the number of rabbits that are supposed to be kept in it. Typically, the length of the cell is 200 to 300 cm, the width is 100 cm, and the height can range from 35 to 60 cm.
When the group content of young animals is most sharply reduced the quality of the skins of males. Therefore, if the farm does not have a sufficient number of cells for the individual keeping of all rabbits, then when rearing young animals, one must first plant one male and the female one in groups.
Prerequisites for the construction of rabbit cages of all types and designs are ease of manufacture, low cost, ease of maintenance of animals, hygiene. Particular attention should be paid to the device of the sex of cells. In areas with a warm and temperate climate, when placing cages in the yard and receiving festivals throughout the year and in other areas when receiving festivals only in the spring-summer period, it is advisable to make lattice (rack) from the feed compartment for rabbits of the main herd and repair young animals hardwood. oak, maple, beech, plastic, stamped metal or welded wire mesh, and in the nesting compartment and in the plug-in socket are solid wood. The same floors must be done in portable cells. In other cases, cells with continuous test floors should be built, and even better, a double floor should be arranged.
Solid test floors should be inclined. The slope is best done towards the back wall. The difference in floor height (slope) should be approximately 5 cm. A double floor can be arranged in several ways, for example, by applying a removable test floor to a rack or mesh floor. In the second case, the cell is the most hygienic.
For a long time, keeping rabbits on one mesh floor leads to namin paws and rabbit disease with pododermatitis. Therefore, it is advisable to place removable shelves there, which must be cleaned daily of dirt.
When receiving from the rabbits a year four standard rounds and raising 20 young animals per year up to 4 months of age, one rabbit of the main herd with young animals and a male share requires at least 3.12 cells: 1. for a rabbit, 0.12. for a male producer (one male for eight females) and 2 for young animals (an average of six to seven goals per cage).
Out of the whole variety of cells for rabbits, two-section cells are most widely used. They are used in various modifications, one of which is shown in Fig. 1
About 0.2 m of sawn timber, 1.3-1.6 m2 of metal mesh per floor and doors, 0.3-0.5 m 2 metal mesh per day nursery and 1.6 kg of nails are required per double cage.
Equipment and inventory. It is advisable to make feeders for concentrated feeds and root crops, as well as drinking bowls, built into the front (front) wall of the cage, as this facilitates the care of rabbits. The feeders should be up to 50-60 cm long. Arrange them in such a way that the center of gravity of the feeders is inside the cells, and therefore, in the normal state, their outer sides are pressed against the facade walls of the cells.
In order to prevent suckling rabbits from climbing into the feeder and not damaging it, it is necessary to make a removable metal frame with transverse barriers from the wire every 6 cm along the entire length of the feeders. If there is no such frame, it is necessary to cover the edges of the feeder with a metal plate or thick wire. The built-in metal drinking bowl is made on the same principle.
For feeding grain and granules, hopper self-feeders can be used, laying food in them once a day.
To lay food in them immediately for 2-3 days, as recommended by some authors, should not be, because this violates the principle of normalized feeding of rabbits.
If the cells do not have built-in feeders and drinking bowls, you can use plug-in ones. Their design and size can be very diverse. However, they must all be tipping resistant and also easy to clean. As such feeders and drinkers, for example, thick-walled clay cups and conventional tin cans can be used. In order to prevent them from tipping over, they are fixed in different ways: solder the hook from below and hang the load from it, put the jar to the cell wall and fix it with a retractable rod or a large nail, insert the jar into the fixing rings fixed at one end in the cell wall, etc.
Two containers must be put in each cage: one for feed, the other. for water.
When keeping young rabbits in summer on grass and hay walks, a nursery with a hinged gable cover can be made. The length of the nursery is selected depending on the number of rabbits in the pen. The distance between the rods is 30 mm. The bars can be replaced with a mesh with a mesh size of 35×35 mm. For concentrated feeds on the walks, it is necessary to have a trough-shaped feeder with dividers (so that rabbits do not climb into them), but for water. about the same group drinker.
As a container for water, ordinary bottles are also used, which are filled with water and placed with the neck in a drinking bowl or connecting them to the latter through a rubber tube. For rabbits with offspring, the upper edge of such a drinking bowl should be located at the level of 5-8 cm, and for young animals after laying out from mothers and for adult rabbits without offspring. at a height of 10-12 cm from the floor of the cell. The water level is set at a distance of about 1 cm from the top edge of the drinker. When arranging such drinkers, it is necessary to strive to ensure that it more often does not enter the cage by more than 3 cm, as this protects the drinker from contamination.
An auto-drinker for rabbits can be made from a storage tank, a regulating tank with a float device, and funnel-shaped or grooved drinkers. If there is a water supply, the need for a storage tank disappears. The float device will maintain a constant water level in the drinkers. The disadvantage of this system is that cells must be placed horizontally at the same level. The permissible slope of the water pipe should not exceed 0.05 cm per 1 m of pipe length. In fig. 6,7 and 8 show the main types of feeders, nurseries and drinking bowls for rabbits.
For the transportation of large and bulky goods (grass, hay, etc.) in each household, it is necessary to have a light and durable trolley with a carrying capacity of 70-100 kg. Two-wheeled strollers with a rubber stroke of approximately the same carrying capacity are produced, but you can also make them yourself using wheels from bicycles, mopeds, scooters or motorcycles.
To clean the area where rabbits are kept, and to clean the cages, you must have certain equipment: a broom, a rake, a shovel, a broom, a scraper, a scoop, a bucket, as well as containers for storing disinfectants. After cleaning each cell, the equipment used (broom, scraper, scoop) should be lowered into a 3-5% solution of creolin or lysol.
